A new form of connection arrives

The new system of Internet Light Fidelity (Li-Fi) is now ready to go to market and to overcome the known as Wi-Fi Wireless Fidelity. The Professor of the University of Edinburgh, Harald Haas, investigated how to take advantage power of an LED lamp to transmit data without the need for a lead. Thus emerged the new Li-Fi, technology that radiates data is based on communication by visible light (VLC) and was exhibited for the first time at the Consumer Electronic Show in 2012.

The Li-Fi is the novelty in the world of technology, transmitting internet through LEDs does not generate interference with other frequencies or becomes clogged by multiple connections. Having no electromagnetic radiation does not affect other sensitive devices such as pacemakers and it can be used on the plane.

Its weak point is that light waves can not pass through the walls. For this reason, the network coverage would be limited to an area not greater than 6 m. But this could also play in support since it would not be viable to steal internet signals. Finally, this technology cannot send information only to download it. So it would need another signal in parallel to share photos or files. This new form of energy is the big bet to combat growing congestion in the radiofrequency spectrum that continues to increase around the world.
